A simple guide with pointers on what to look out for when buying cut and polished diamonds.

  • Make yourself familiar with the basic factors, the 4Cs, that affect the qualities of a diamond and consequently its price. The 4Cs are namely, the cut, carat, clarity and colour of the stones. To read more about the 4Cs, click here

  • Ensure the diamonds you have chosen are certified and your dealer is able to provide a lab certificate (preferable from GIA or HRD). GIA Report Check is available for all GIA reports, providing you with an additional level of assurance. With Report Check, you can quickly and conveniently confirm that the information on your report matches what is archived in the GIA report database.

  • Check prices with various dealers for similar stones before you commit to buying. No harm in shopping around for prices! This helps you become aware of dealers who apply extravagant mark-ups on the price of their stones.
